Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi confirmed on Sunday to Sudan's Sovereign Council Chairman Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, during his reception in New Alamein City, Egypt's support for Sudan, its unity, and territorial integrity, and its continued push for a political solution to the current crisis and the end of the war.
El-Sisi received Al-Burhan on the sidelines of the eighth mid-year coordination meeting of the African Union, and Al-Burhan is scheduled to participate in the consultative summit that brings together the leaders of Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, and Somalia.
The Egyptian presidency stated in a statement that the meeting between El-Sisi and Al-Burhan discussed the developments in Sudan, and El-Sisi affirmed "the constants of the Egyptian position supporting the brotherly Sudanese people, and committed to preserving Sudan's unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the unity of its national institutions."
El-Sisi emphasized "Egypt's continued efforts, at both the regional and international levels, to push for a political solution to the crisis and to contribute to ending the war and alleviating the humanitarian suffering of the Sudanese people, enabling Sudan to restore its security and stability and move towards reconstruction and development."
The Egyptian presidency noted that Al-Burhan "expressed his deep appreciation for the Egyptian positions supporting Sudan, affirming that they embody the uniqueness of the historical and brotherly relations that bind the two brotherly peoples, and valuing the political and humanitarian support provided by Egypt to Sudan, in addition to its generous hosting of large numbers of Sudanese who were forced to leave their country due to the war."
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed on Saturday that any infringement on the security, unity, and sovereignty of Sudan represents a red line that Egypt will not allow to be crossed, according to a statement from the presidency.
Burhan emphasized the "importance of not equating the legitimate Sudanese state institutions with the rebel militias or parallel entities," and praised the "clear and steadfast Egyptian position on this matter."
The Egyptian presidency mentioned that the discussions also addressed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Egypt and Sudan.
El-Sisi confirmed "Egypt's keenness to continue providing support to our brothers in Sudan in various fields, and to enhance the frameworks of bilateral cooperation in a way that achieves common interests and meets the aspirations of the Egyptian and Sudanese peoples towards development and prosperity."
