Lena Dunham Welcomes Her First Child via Surrogate

- American actress and writer Lena Dunham and her husband Luis Felber welcomed a baby girl via surrogate. In an opinion piece published in "Vogue" on Wednesday, Dunham, 40, known for creating the successful television series "Girls," revealed that the baby was born 13 days late.

She described the moment of her birth, saying: "I saw her face, and I was gasping for breath just like she was. Her eyes were wide and unsteady, taking in the light and shadow, blinking rapidly."

Dunham had revealed in 2018 that she underwent a hysterectomy in an attempt to end the pain caused by the condition "Endometriosis." This medical condition is common and often painful, occurring when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus itself.

It is estimated to affect more than 11% of women aged 15 to 44 across the United States. The surgery resulted in the removal of her cervix and uterus, making her unable to conceive naturally.

Speaking about her meeting with the surrogate, Dunham wrote in her "Vogue" article: "Although I am known for my ability to make friends quickly, this was the fastest leap I ever made, from just meeting for coffee for the first time to a medical procedure related to birth." She noted that in the months leading up to the embryo transfer, while she was "getting to know the surrogate and building trust with her," she thought she would feel "jealous" of her, but that did not happen.

Dunham added: "Instead, I felt a different kind of jealousy; jealousy towards the baby herself, because she had the chance to be cradled inside someone who exudes such a great sense of safety." She revealed that this pregnancy came after "12 years of spinning in a whirlwind of unsuccessful attempts to conceive."
