Iraq announces the arrest of those involved in the "violation" of the American flag

Sabah Al-Nauman, the spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaydi, stated that the relevant authorities have arrested those involved in the violation of the American flag in Baghdad during the "Sovereignty Day" events.

Al-Nauman added in a statement that this step comes in implementation of the orders of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali Al-Zaydi, which emphasized the necessity of holding accountable anyone proven to be involved in this act and taking legal action against them, in accordance with Iraqi laws and diplomatic norms.

He stressed that the Iraqi government affirms that "respecting the symbols of countries and the diplomatic missions of friendly nations accredited in Iraq is a legal and diplomatic commitment, and that any violation or insult in this regard will be subject to legal accountability."

Al-Zaydi had ordered, on Sunday, the formation of a committee to investigate the circumstances of the "violation" of the United States flag during one of the parades held as part of the "Sovereignty Day" events.

The spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces mentioned in a previous statement that Al-Zaydi condemned the incident, emphasizing the necessity of adhering to laws and diplomatic norms.

He added that the Prime Minister directed to take the necessary legal actions against the violators, and to complete the investigation and submit its results as soon as possible.

The investigation comes after events held on the occasion of "Sovereignty Day," which Iraq celebrated following the completion of the international coalition's mission to combat the "ISIS" organization and the withdrawal of its forces from the country on September 30.
