The Yemeni army took control of the Samah Fortress southeast of Taiz on Saturday, following clashes with the Houthis, and carried out 257 targeting operations against their military sites, movements, and capabilities on several fronts, with operational efforts focused on the Taiz fronts, according to the Yemeni news agency (Saba).
The agency quoted a military source as saying that the Yemeni armed forces took control of the Samah Fortress, with the support of the popular resistance from the people of the Samah district, and that the clashes resulted in the deaths and injuries of dozens of Houthis, with several others fleeing.
For his part, the spokesman for the Yemeni armed forces stated that the forces carried out 257 targeting operations on Saturday against military sites, movements, and capabilities belonging to the Houthis, using warplanes, drones, artillery, missiles, and rocket launchers.
He explained that the operations included Sana'a, Midi, Baqim, and the fronts of Al-Jawf, Marib, Al-Bayda, and Lahij, with operational efforts concentrated on the Taiz fronts.
He added that the operations targeted command and control centers, gatherings, reinforcements, and combat reserves, in addition to weapons and ammunition depots and military supply lines and means.
According to the initial field estimates announced by the spokesperson, the operations resulted in the death of no less than 700 members of the "Houthi" group, and the destruction of military targets described as strategic and high-value, along with the destruction of 170 combat vehicles and equipment.
The spokesperson stated that these operations directly affected the combat capability of the Houthis and limited their ability to continue attacks against civilians.
He confirmed that the Yemeni armed forces will continue to carry out their missions to protect citizens and defend the security and sovereignty of the country.
In another field development, the media center of the Yemeni armed forces reported that the air defenses of the armed forces in the sixth military region shot down 4 drones belonging to the Houthis in the Al-Shahla front east of Al-Jawf Governorate.
The center added, citing a military source, that the air defenses of the 101st Infantry Brigade engaged with the drones and shot them down before they could achieve their objectives.
In a post on the "X" platform, the Yemeni Ministry of Defense and the General Staff announced the launch of general mobilization and community alert, in implementation of the directives of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi.
This came during an extensive meeting chaired by the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Taher Al-Aqili in Aden, and the Chief of General Staff, Commander of Joint Operations, Lieutenant General Sagheer bin Aziz, via video conferencing from Marib Governorate, with the participation of leaders from the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff.
The Minister of Defense reported that practical measures have been taken to implement the decision for general mobilization and public alert, activate human mobilization and reserve pathways, organize reception centers, and assign various entities to begin executing their assigned tasks.
Al-Aqili emphasized the armed forces' duty to defend the homeland and its sovereignty, defeat the "Houthi" group, and restore state institutions, stressing the need to mobilize energies and integrate efforts until the capital, Sana'a, is liberated, according to what the ministry reported.
For his part, the Chief of General Staff stated that the announcement of general mobilization represents a national decision that calls for an organized transition to the highest levels of readiness, unifying efforts and resources, enhancing the efficiency of the armed forces, and strengthening their ability to perform their duties.
Ben Aziz emphasized the importance of completing the inventory of forces, means, and needs, organizing the processes of summons and reinforcement according to legal frameworks, while maintaining the leadership and administrative hierarchy, the accuracy of information, and the speed of response.
