With 6 People Onboard.. Medical Evacuation Plane Missing Between Bermuda and Boston

The U.S. Coast Guard said on Saturday that a plane used for medical purposes went missing during its flight from Bermuda to Boston with six people on board.

A Coast Guard spokesperson said via email that the Federal Aviation Administration informed the Coast Guard early Saturday that it had lost contact with the plane, which is a Gulfstream model.

Canadian Transport Minister Stephen McKinnon said on the platform 'X' that 'four Canadians are on board the plane.'

He wrote: 'We are closely monitoring the situation and working with the relevant authorities as search and rescue efforts continue.'

Flight tracking data from FlightAware showed that the plane, registered to Latitude Air Ambulance, left Bermuda at 12:41 a.m. local time.

The data also showed that the plane was flying at an altitude of 24,000 feet (7,300 meters) for most of the flight before descending to an altitude of 13,000 feet about two minutes before air traffic controllers lost contact with it.

Boston's local Channel 25 aired an audio clip from Boston Logan International Airport in which an air traffic controller can be heard asking the Gulfstream pilot, "Did you say you would enter without visibility? Is that what you said?"

The controller then asked whether the plane was declaring an emergency, but no response was heard.

Latitude is located in Ontario, Canada, and provides medical evacuation services.

The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.

The Coast Guard reported that it has sent air and sea crews to search for the plane near Nantucket, an island located south of the mainland of Massachusetts.

Bermuda's Prime Minister David Burt stated in a statement posted on Instagram that the Bermuda government is in contact with U.S. authorities and the families of the passengers.

Data from AccuWeather showed that the weather conditions in Nantucket were clear on Saturday afternoon.
