Trump Announces Agreement with Denmark Granting America 'Permanent Control over Security' in Greenland

- U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday that an agreement has been reached with Denmark granting the United States 'permanent control over security and all other needs' in Greenland. Trump stated via his platform 'Truth Social': 'I am pleased to announce that the United States of America has reached an agreement with the Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland, granting the United States permanent control over security and all other needs in Greenland, which fully addresses all of our many American concerns, and the United States will incur no costs.'

He added: 'Based on my directives, we have worked with representatives from Denmark and Greenland to ensure that the United States - forever - has the full capability to take whatever is necessary in Greenland to secure and defend the security of Greenland and the United States of America.' He continued: 'Additionally, from now on, no adversary of the United States will be able to establish a base or military presence or make sensitive investments in Greenland without our explicit written consent.'

He noted: 'For over 100 years, presidents have recognized the strategic importance of Greenland, but none have been able to do anything about it. I am proud to be the president who has permanently and decisively addressed this critical situation. It is an 'eternal' agreement (valid for a lifetime), with no end! We feel a great honor and pride in what has just happened, and the American people will cherish everything that has been agreed upon today.'

He announced: 'We will immediately begin the process of developing a significant military presence in the appropriate part of Greenland - and there are many suitable parts for that - and we will work with the people of Greenland in the development and construction processes. This solution is fantastic for the United States, Denmark, Greenland, and all our allies. We look forward to working with the wonderful people of Denmark and Greenland towards an amazing future regarding this very large and strategically important piece of land.'
