The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Minister Badr Abdel Aty held a trilateral meeting on Sunday with Chadian Foreign Minister Ahmed Kogori and the official in charge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Libya, Al-Taher Al-Baour.
The ministry added in a statement that Abdel Aty discussed during the meeting ways to enhance coordination and consultation among the three countries regarding issues of common interest, addressing security challenges, combating terrorism, and transnational organized crime, which contributes to supporting security and stability in the Sahel and Sahara region.
The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nader Zaki, mentioned that the ministers discussed ways to activate the Sahel and Sahara countries' grouping, emphasizing the importance of working to revitalize the grouping and maximize the benefits from its capabilities.
He pointed out that the ministers agreed to enhance cooperation on issues of peace and security, combating terrorism and illegal immigration, and building the security capacities of member states, which helps to address the most significant challenges facing the region.
They also emphasized the importance of working to hold a ministerial meeting as soon as possible, paving the way for a summit at the level of heads of state and government, and allowing the resumption of the grouping's institutions and enhancing their effectiveness.
Zaki explained that the meeting emphasized the importance of continuing close coordination between Egypt, Chad, and Libya, and enhancing consultations on security, political, and developmental issues in the Sahel and Sahara region, in a way that supports the ability of the countries in the region to face common challenges, enhances security and stability, promotes regional cooperation, and drives development and integration efforts among the member states.
